Louise Skelton & WHITSON

Louise Skelton & WHITSON

Eardisley rider Louise Skelton put her eventing season back on track with a 3rd & 4th place in the Advanced Intermediate section at Gatcombe Park on Sunday. Louise had the only round inside the time on the cross country section to finish 3rd on her own home bred horse Partly Pickled with a score of 36.5, & despite being held on the course with Roy Baker's horse Whitson she picked up just 2.8 time penalties to finish in 4th place on 37.6. The section was won by Nick Gauntlett on Electron (35.9) & New Zealand rider Andrew Nicholson in second place with Mr Cruise Control (36.4).

Afterwards Louise was saying that she wished shed gone faster on the 17.1 hands Whitson, but as both Nick Gauntlett & Andrew Nicholson are known for producing quick cross country rounds, it is good to see that Louise is on the pace there. She has just had 2 screws removed from her leg which were causing her some discomfort, so with that & an operation on her hand before Christmas, Louise will be hoping not to see another doctor for a while.

Event riders do clock up some miles & this week Louise has got 5 horses over 2 days at Somerley Park, near Ringwood, Hampshire, then it's up to Belton in Lincolnshire with 4 at the weekend. Following that she's got 8 at Sapey, near Worcester. There will then be a couple more events before she goes to The Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials over Easter Bank Holiday weekend, Thursday 21st-Monday 25th April.

If all this sounds a little bit busy then it's just as well that Louise has taken on a new groom !!
